"Law on Employment immigration of skilled workers“ in Germany from 2020
The Law on Employment Immigration of skilled workers is intended to facilitate the immigration of qualified workers from third countries.
Approval of qualification remains a pre-condition for professionals with vocational training, but there are some facilitations/easements available
For professionals with a university degree, the new law does not change the previous rules. The new law does not change the previous ones for professionals with an university degree

Both qualified university graduates and employees with qualified vocational training will be considered as skilled workers in the future
For professionals, recognition is mandatory to be allowed to work in their profession.
For professionals with employment contract and recognition, the priority check is not applicable. This means that it is nolonger necessary to determine, prior to each hiring of a specialist from a third country, whether an applicant from Germany, EU / EEA / Switzerland or a third country with unrestricted access to the labour market is available.
The limitation to the so-called “bottleneck occupations” is omitted
Professionals with qualified vocational training can also apply for a job search within a limited period of time. The requirement is knowledge of German and assurance of means of living in Germany
The possibilities to stay in Germany for qualification are improved. Approval procedures can be carried out completely in Germany within the framework of negotiated agreements of the Federal Employment Agency (BA).
